On the first morning of your Amboseli experience, you will be met by a representative in Nairobi and be driven to Amboseli National park and your home for the next two days-Tortilis Camp. Tortilis Camp has a prime location for witnessing the majesty of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. Located in a private conservancy bordering the national park, game drives, walks, sundowners and bush meals take place both inside the national park and in the conservancy, where you enjoy exclusivity.
The tents are all spacious, with king or twin beds and elegant en suite bathrooms.
You won’t be spending much time in your room, though. There’s so much to see and do, including spotting all the big cats on the conservancy, enjoying sundowners with Kilimanjaro in the distance, visiting the nearby Maasai village and, of course, going on day and night game drives. You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy game drives through Amboseli National Park, delighting in delicious picnic lunches while the hordes of animals go about their day in the distance.
Your morning will kick off with a hearty breakfast followed by a full morning of game viewing in the famous Amboseli National Park. After a morning of big game and big cats, find a shady spot for a picnic lunch enjoying the sweeping vistas of the park before returning to camp to relax. After a refreshing dip in the pool, catch up on some sleep or set off on a Maasai guided walk to a nearby village for some remarkable insights into local Maasai culture.
As the heat of the day ebbs away, set off on an afternoon game drive, stopping for a sundowner drink at a scenic viewpoint. If the weather plays along, you may enjoy breathtaking views of iconic Mount Kilimanjaro. Heading back to camp, a spot light is used to locate nocturnal animals such as aardvarks, bush babies and serval cats on the prowl. Return to camp for a wholesome dinner around a campfire beneath a canopy of stars, ready to swop stories about the day’s adventures.
On the last morning of your Classic Amboseli Safari, there will be time for one final game drive where your guide will decode the activity that happened during the night – you may see the remnants of a lion kill or watch a herd of buffalo head down for an early morning drink.
After breakfast back at the camp, you will be driven back to Nairobi where your Amboseli safari portion comes to an end.
